Blog: What to Wear to Your Professional Photo Session?
There are a few things to think about when looking for something to wear to your professional photo session.
Firstly, why are you getting photos done by a professional? Are they your family photos or are they your professional photos for your career? Do you want to look casual or formal?
Color Meaning
Secondly, you should understand that colors can make a statement and give a certain feeling. Here are some examples:
Red = Warmth, Love, Power
Blue = Cool, calm, confident
Yellow = Happiness, warmth, optimism
Green = Nature, Luck, Safety
Purple = Luxury, mystery, magical
Orange = Joy, comfort, fun
Pink = Harmony, Friendship, Affection
Grey = Neutral, Balance, Cool
White = Cleanliness, peacefulness, simple
Black = Elegance, glamor, sophistication
Brown = Earth, Security, Hard Working
Color Matching
Thirdly, if you want to match different colors in your outfits or different colors within the family, consider how those colors match with each other. With more than one person in the session, think about colors that complement each other, or similar shades of one color can also work.
Yellow & Purple = boldness and cheerful
Red & Green = Christmas feeling
Blue & Orange = big impact, bold, stylish, fun
Green & Yellow = dynamic
Blue & Pink = Pretty
Yellow & Grey = neutral base with a bright accent
Brown & Black = timeless coupling
Red & Black = passion
Fitting Clothes
Fourthly, my suggestion is to wear clothes that make you feel and look good; Like your favorite formal shirt or a favorite summer dress. I would also suggest that dark colors can slenderize, and light/pastel colors can be very beautiful. Find clothes that are more closely fitted clothing that flatters your shape. You may want to wear medium to long sleeves and pants. Thinking simple and timeless style will work for most people.
What NOT to Wear!
Finally, here are some tips on what NOT to wear:
- some patterns don’t work for the camera.
- avoid words & logos on the clothing as they can be distracting
- Don’t be too cool or too warm for a session. Please dress for the weather.
