 Merry Christmas to You

Blog Merry Christmas to you

After the Fall Sessions when all the leaves have fallen and it’s just too cold to go outdoors for photos, that’s when I start doing Christmas Photo Sessions in my Studio. I have a couple of backdrop options and I hope to have more each year. I also have many digital Christmas and Winter backdrops to create magic for you. These photos are perfect for your Christmas Cards to show off your beautiful family.

Clothing for Christmas Photo Session

Wondering what to wear for your Christmas Photo Session? Plaid with plain colors looks awesome. Clothing with shades of red, and green can be fun. Sweaters can also be a great choice. My main suggestion is to wear clothes that make you feel and look good; Like your favorite formal shirt or dress. I would also suggest that dark colors can slenderize, and light/pastel colors can be very beautiful. Find clothes that are more closely fitted clothing that flatters your shape. You may want to wear medium to long sleeves and pants. Thinking simple and timeless style will work for most people. If you want to wear shoes for your photos, I ask that you bring them with you instead of wearing them to the session.

Here are some tips on what NOT to wear:

  • some patterns don’t work for the camera.
  • avoid words & logos on the clothing as they can be distracting
  • Don’t be too cool or too warm for a session. Please dress for the weather.

Merry Christmas and Thank You

Merry Christmas from my family to yours. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas holiday by spending it with the people in your life that matter the most.

I want to thank everyone for your support again this year! It has been an amazing year! I meant more wonderful people and some forever clients! Please remember to support local and spread the word about the hard-working business people in your communities.

Fall in Love with Photos

Blog Fall in Love with Photos

If you ask me my favorite time of year to do on-location/outdoor photo sessions, then I would definitely say Fall. I Fall in Love with these sessions each year. However, the perfect Fall session is very short on time. It’s about 2 weeks long. Then a freeze or wind comes and takes all the leaves away. If you are interested in a Fall Family or Couple Session then I can add you to the list and contact you when the time is right. These sessions are usually completed around 4 pm in October.

Clothing for Fall Photo Session

Wondering what to wear for your Fall Photo Session? Plaid with plain colors looks awesome. Clothing with shades of red, orange, and yellow can be beautiful. Sweaters can also be a great choice. My main suggestion is to wear clothes that make you feel and look good; Like your favorite formal shirt or a favorite summer dress. I would also suggest that dark colors can slenderize, and light/pastel colors can be very beautiful. Find clothes that are more closely fitted clothing that flatters your shape. Engagement Photo Session

A Fall photo session can be the perfect time to get your engagement photos. They look beautiful on those Save the Date cards. I have done some Fall engagement sessions and they turned out so nice!

Professional Headshot session

Blog Professional Headshot session

Do you need a professional headshot of yourself? For your business, your job, or for another reason? I can help with that! I’m located in Northern Arm (near Botwood) in Newfoundland, Canada.

We would start by discussing what your professional headshot should say to your viewers. Do you want to make them feel comfortable and safe? Or do you want to look strong and confident? Because there are certain color combinations and poses that portray what the viewer will feel about your headshot and therefore your business or your personality.

We will also discuss your backdrop options in the studio or on-location areas to use for your session. Do you want a dark or light backdrop option? Or do you want to be outdoors surrounded by nature?

I know it can be hard to stand in front of my camera by yourself but don’t worry. We will make is a fun experience and get the professional headshots that you are looking for. Looking professional is important for many businesses and jobs. The way that the public view you and/or the business will matter to how they interact with you.

Senior Graduation Sessions

Blog Senior Graduation Sessions

If someone gets me talking about photography, then I will more than likely bring up that I absolutely LOVE photographing senior graduates!

These sessions are my favorite because these young adults are full of joy and smiles to finally finish their high school years and start their new adventures in the big world. They are looking their best, and they want to capture this magical memory.

For the Class of 2022, I did senior graduation sessions in many locations including; Botwood Collegiate, Hillview Academy in Norris Arm, Lakeside Academy in Buchans, Exploits Valley High in Grand Falls-Windsor, and John Watkins Academy in Hermitage.

For grad sessions, I only do 1-hour or 2-hour sessions. The 1-hour session includes group photos and then a focus on just the graduate for the rest of the time. My favorite is a 2-hour session with the grad! We take all the possible group photos that we can, then we use the rest of the time to have alot of fun! With a 2-hour session, there is enough time to go to multiple locations and have whatever props and poses you want!

I also have experience with photographing the cap and gown ceremony and banquet for the whole class. I take a group photo of the class and then all the decorations and events that happen. For events, I can be hired for $100 per hour and get up to 50 images per hour.

Posing Tips & Tricks

Blog: Why hire a professional photographer for your special event or family photos? POSING

FIRST

As a professional photographer, I know how to help you look your best in front of the camera. It starts with the camera settings and lens, along with the type and angle of lighting I use during the session.

SECOND

Then it’s the plan that I specifically create for your session which includes how I will pose you and others in the photo. I start by posing your feet and your hands. The hands must always have something to do.

For men, I make sure they look comfortable and lean or step forward.

To pose women, they sure look elongated, and I pose them to have negative space and show curves.

For kiddos, it’s all about the expression and just having fun with them.

For groups, I like to create triangles and avoid mirroring.

Then with any photo, I make sure there is a connection between the people within the photo, or between the individual and the camera.

THIRD

The last part is the editing process that I do when transforming your images into the final photo that you received in your website gallery by shootproof. I love to bring a bit of magic into your session and make sure you are looking your absolute best.

You can also check out my blog post on What to wear to your professional photo session at

The photos below show the between posing your body straight at the camera VS having a professional photographer give you tips and tricks on how to pose.

What to Wear to Your Professional Photo Session?

Blog: What to Wear to Your Professional Photo Session?

Blog What to Wear to Your Professional Photo Session?

There are a few things to think about when looking for something to wear to your professional photo session.

Firstly, why are you getting photos done by a professional? Are they your family photos or are they your professional photos for your career? Do you want to look casual or formal?

Color Meaning

Secondly, you should understand that colors can make a statement and give a certain feeling. Here are some examples:

Red = Warmth, Love, Power

Blue = Cool, calm, confident

Yellow = Happiness, warmth, optimism

Green = Nature, Luck, Safety

Purple = Luxury, mystery, magical

Orange = Joy, comfort, fun

Pink = Harmony, Friendship, Affection

Grey = Neutral, Balance, Cool

White = Cleanliness, peacefulness, simple

Black = Elegance, glamor, sophistication

Brown = Earth, Security, Hard Working

Color Matching

Thirdly, if you want to match different colors in your outfits or different colors within the family, consider how those colors match with each other. With more than one person in the session, think about colors that complement each other, or similar shades of one color can also work.

Yellow & Purple = boldness and cheerful

Red & Green = Christmas feeling

Blue & Orange = big impact, bold, stylish, fun

Green & Yellow = dynamic

Blue & Pink = Pretty

Yellow & Grey = neutral base with a bright accent

Brown & Black = timeless coupling

Red & Black = passion

Fitting Clothes

Fourthly, my suggestion is to wear clothes that make you feel and look good; Like your favorite formal shirt or a favorite summer dress. I would also suggest that dark colors can slenderize, and light/pastel colors can be very beautiful. Find clothes that are more closely fitted clothing that flatters your shape. You may want to wear medium to long sleeves and pants. Thinking simple and timeless style will work for most people.

What NOT to Wear!

Finally, here are some tips on what NOT to wear:

  • some patterns don’t work for the camera.
  • avoid words & logos on the clothing as they can be distracting
  • Don’t be too cool or too warm for a session. Please dress for the weather.

My Favorite Local Photoshoot Locations

Blog My Favorite Local Photoshoot Locations

My Favorite Local Photoshoot Locations

Northern Arm

Pendragon Trail in Northern Arm
This trail is my top location and the place where I have the most experience. It’s a beautiful trail with large trees and a gazebo out above the water. In fact, I have photographed at this location at all times of the day, and I can work at whatever time you are available. My favorite spot to photograph is past the gazebo so I suggest wearing comfortable footwear, it’s about a 5-minute walk (you could bring your other shoes for your session to wear once we get there). My favorite time of year at this location is in the Fall. There is this beautiful maple tree in the parking lot of the trail that turns pretty colors.

Private Garden in Northern Arm
I have permission to photograph in a private garden located on the main street in Northern Arm. It had beautiful large trees and shade from the sun in the afternoon.

Northern Arm Brook Falls in Northern Arm
The sunset at the falls is stunning! This location is perfect for adult couples or senior graduation sessions in the summer and fall.

Botwood

Brick Wall at Memorial Academy or Botwood Collegiate in Botwood
The brick walls at the schools in Botwood are great for kindergarten and senior graduation sessions. It provides a clear backdrop for great photos. Additionally, it doesn’t matter what time of day, there is a wall with the shade that would work for any session.

Senior Graduation with Music. Stacey Brent Photography, Central Newfoundland.

Blueberry Hill Gazebo in Botwood
A cloudy day with sunny breaks and low wind can capture a gorgeous photo on the top of blueberry hill. It’s best in the morning or evening. It can be cooler up there for sessions. There are also birch trees there that work well in the evening sun.

Murals in Botwood
Looking for a unique session? Add a Botwood mural to your session locations.
Visit this website to see some options for the murals

Killick Island Walking Trail & Airbase in Botwood
This is my second top location. Most of my sessions here are taken in the evening. There are benches, stairs, large metal doors of the gun shelters, trees, and water.

Other Locations

Peterview Park in Peterview
I saw this location last year, but I haven’t had a session there yet. It’s a large open area with green grass in the summer and beautiful trees surrounding the area. I’m very excited to have a family session here in the future.

Photo unavailable yet.

Trestle & Riverside Drive Boardwalk in Bishop’s Falls
If Bishop’s Falls is your desired location then I would suggest the trestle on a warm sunny evening and the boardwalk with trees next to the trestle.

Church Road Park & Gorge Park in Grand Falls-Windsor
If Grand Falls-Windsor is your location then the parks are great places with grass, water, and trees.

My hometown is a wonderful place if you want the beach and the water in your session.

A New Haircut, A New Me!

Blog: New Haircut

Today, I got a new haircut, and I’m super excited!
I don’t trust very many people to cut my hair because my hair takes a long time to grow back. This is only the 4th time getting a haircut and color in 10 years! My hair was getting so long that I was braiding my hair every day just to get by. So I searched one of my local hair salons and found a post of a Before & After by Paige Hemeon that was very similar to my hair and what I wanted.
Paige and I had so much fun talking and hanging out. She was confident in her abilities, and it shows! She listened to what I wanted in my cut and color, then she did an amazing job! I felt so happy that I came home and took a professional selfie in my studio.

I was telling her that I didn’t realize how connected a photographer and a hairstylist were until no one wanted to get photos of their “COVID hair.” Paige said, “we are a team, girl.” 🙂
Anyone that needs a new look, I would highly recommend Paige Hemeon at the Hair Shop for your hair salon needs.
